THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND SCRAPBOOK THAT DOCUMENTS AN INCREDIBLE AND FORGOTTEN HISTORIC EXHIBITION GAME THAT TOOK PLACE ON AUGUST 13, 1934 BETWEEN THE DETROIT TIGERS AND ST. LOUIS CARDINALS.THIS IS DETROIT'S CUNNINGHAM DRUG STORE OWNER'S NATE SHAPERO'S PERSONAL SCRAPBOOK DOCUMENTING THE DAY. HE ARRANGED WITH TIGER'S OWNER FRANK NAVIN TO NEGOTIATE A FLAT SUM TO TURN OVER THE PARK TO HIM AND HE WOULD INVITE THE CHILDREN OF DETROIT FOR FREE. NAVIN ARRANGED FOR THE ST LOUIS CARDINALS TO PARTICIPATE AND SHAPERO PAID FOR COBB TO COME IN FROM CALIFORNIA TO THROW OUT THE FIRST PITCH. ONE PLAYER WHO REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE WAS DIZZY DEAN OF THE CARDINALS IN WHICH MUCH SHAME WAS CAST UPON HIM.
SCRAPBOOK CONSISTS OF NUMEROUS PHOTO'S, TICKETS, LETTERS OF THANKS FROM BUSINESS LEADERS SUCH AS JAMES VERNOR OF GINGER ALE FAME, RICHARD WEBBER OF JL HUDSON AND MANY MORE. ALSO ARE NUMEROUS NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS FROM BEFORE AND AFTER THE EXHIBITION CONTEST FROM 3 NEWSPAPERS (FREE PRESS, NEWS AND THE TIMES).
ST LOUIS CARDINALS WIN THE GAME 7-1 WHICH WOULD BECOME THE PRECURSOR TO THAT YEAR'S WORLD SERIES.
