Description
Bearing the Elkington CROWN mark (in use prior to 1895) and the date code of 1880, this handsome silver plate serving dish is equality appropriate for the antique silver plate collector or to grace your traditional table. Of three leaf clover form with three deep well sections, elegant lid and dark wood handle. Lid finial is bolted. The rope motif on the lid finial repeats of the dish border. Quite an elegant piece by the premier Victorian silverplate maker.
SIZE: Diameter at widest point of silverplate is about 11 3/4". The handle is about 7 1/2" long.
MARKS: Early Elkington marks as shown in photos below. Also shows pattern or form #13740.
CONDITION: Antique item. The handle is loose and wobbles. Pitting to the silverplate in the bottom of the divided sections. Just a a few wear spots on the top lid.
NOTE
: After I took the photos, one of the metal pegs (the top one) that holds the handle in place fell out (which might explain the wobble). I have it and will send it to you. It may be able to be reinserted it in such a way as to decrease the wobble of the handle or alternatively you may want to use a new (likely longer) tiny peg.
